Road Closures

Our priority for the Thorndon Street Fair is the safety of our fair goers and stall holders. With over 20,000 people in attendance, we work with Wellington City Council to facilitate appropriate road closures.

The following streets will be NO PARKING from 5.00am and closed from 6.00am on Sunday 1st December 2024. The streets will reopen at 5.30pm.

The streets are marked in red on the map.

- Tinakori Road; from Bowen St to Harriet St
- Hill Street; from Selwyn Tce to Tinakori Road -

(NB The Fair area has extended along Hill St from Selwyn Tce to Guilford Tce in 2019. The Fair gate will remain at Selwyn Tce, as in previous years, and cars will still be able to access Selwyn Tce. The extension allows for a change in parking allocation. Residents’ parking opposite the British High Commission will be closed off on Fair day, but the adjacent bus stop will be available for residents’ parking. The number of parks will be much the same.)

Please remove your cars from the closed streets before 5.00am on Sunday 3rd December 2023. Any cars left parked there after that time will be towed to Glenmore St.

There will also be no vehicle access onto Tinakori Rd or Hill St from Parliament St, Glenbervie Tce, Upton Tce or upper Ascot St (those streets are marked in blue on the map below).

If you are intending to go out during Sunday you would be wise to move your car out of the area beforehand. Once the road is closed, no resident cars will be able to drive through (emergency vehicles will be given access).

The Fair is the major fundraiser for Thorndon School.
We know it’s difficult to lose access, so we appreciate your patience and co-operation, and regret the inconvenience.

We will also be giving local residents notices in their letterboxes, and leafleting cars parked on the street.

If you have any concerns prior to the Fair, please email us at thorndon.fair@gmail.com

On Fair day, please contact us at Fair HQ at the corner of Upton Tce and Tinakori Rd.
